 CurriculumReligious Education Program Saint Mary's Catholic School will provide a program whereby the Catholic faith is not only taught but also experienced in our daily lives. Participation in religious instruction is required of all students.
Our program includes:
Daily religion class Prayer times Liturgical opportunities Advent and Lent observances Service to the church, school, and community at large
Instructional Program Saint Mary's Catholic School uses the curriculum established by the Diocese of Hartford. Faculty are properly certified by the State of Connecticut. In addition, teachers of the religious curriculum are trained and certified by the Diocese.
The instructional time allocation and the curriculum for each subject area meets the standards established by the Connecticut Department of Education.
The Diocese of Hartford includes the following subject areas in its standard, or core, curriculum:
Catholic Doctrine Reading (Literature-based) Phonics (Kindergarten - 3rd grade) Mathematics (Group learning, i.e., students are grouped and progress through the curriculum according to their ability) English Spelling Social Studies Geography History Science Health Penmanship World Language (Spanish) Music Art Physical Education Technology Program (Diocesan Handbook recommends integration of computers into all areas of basic curriculum, to be provided in the classroom or a computer lab.) Honors Program: Honors Literature, Honors Math
Homework Homework is an integral component of each student's education. It provides an opportunity for students to explore and master skills more thoroughly than class time will allow. All children will have from 30 minutes (primary) to 60 minutes (intermediate, junior high) of homework each night.
