School Calendar & Communications

As part of our initiative to fully utilize mobile device technology, we utilize a Google calendar. You can access the calendar from the link on our school's website, www.stmarysschoolsimsbury.org . There is a link on the home page in the left navigation bar that brings you directly to the calendar. You can also view the calendar by using this link: http://www.stmarysschoolnews.blogspot.com/p/st-marys-school-calendar-2012-2013.html.
When looking at the "monthly" view, the boxes for each day do not necessarily display the entire event. To view the full event either click on the event to receive a pop-up box that displays the full event details or change the calendar view to "agenda" using the tab on the on the right above "Sat" in the calendar box.
The calendar offers additional functionality (e.g., you can get a daily view, a weekly view, a monthly view) that will help us all stay more up to date. Since it is a "public" calendar, you can "share" this calendar to your electronic devices. If you need additional directions about how to do this, please plan to schedule some time with Mrs. Hatch. She will be happy to help you puzzle through the necessary steps. Those of you that like to have a hard copy of our calendar will be able to print it directly from the calendar. It will no longer be necessary to go to "downloads" to print the PDF version. This should help assure that you always have the most current calendar information at your fingertips.
Additionally, all our students in grades Kindergarten through 8 have this calendar "shared" to their iPads. When they click the Calendar icon on their iPads, the school calendar events are displayed automatically. They are able to add their own "events" (e.g., assignments, sports practices, games, etc.) It is important to understand that this is a "view only" share. Only school administration can edit the events on the School Calendar.
Our weekly newsletter, general announcements and emergency announcements is communicated to you via our Blogger hosted school blog. Blogger is part of Google's Apps for Education package. There is a link to this blog posted on the home page of the school's website.
The link for the blog is: http://www.stmarysschoolnews.blogspot.com/. The blog makes it easy for you to receive all your SMS news and announcements. We communicate most routine information on Wednesdays. General and emergency announcement will be posted as needed. Since each post remains "archived", you can easily look back at past communications simply by scrolling down the screen.
To begin receiving your email notifications, simply go to the blog using the link above or via the "click & go" on the Home Page of the school's website and enter your email address in the box on the right side of the screen that says "Enter email to receive all school notifications" and click submit. Once this is done, anytime we post news to the blog, you will receive an email at the address you submitted. You can enter multiple email addresses (e.g., home, work) but each one must be entered and submitted separately. If your email address changes, you will need to subscribe the new email address to continue to receive notifications. You should also advise the school office whenever any of your contact information changes to help assure that we all stay in touch as we should, particularly in the event of any emergency.
Please be aware that there is a delay of several hours between the time we post to the blog and when you receive your email. If a time sensitive announcement is required, we will send it out via a family email list or via a Remind 101 text message.
The Remind 101 system is used for all emergency closings, delayed openings, cancellations or other time sensitive important announcements. Click here for directions on subscribing to this service. It is strongly encouraged that all families subscribe. Any information sent out via Remind 101 is also posted to the Home Page of the website and to the blog.
When you go to the blog, please notice that you can also directly access the school calendar by clicking on the St. Mary's School Calendar 2012-2013 tab at the top of the page beneath the banner. Staying in touch and keeping current has never been easier!
