We are having an amazing time with our Bible Study. We were so surprised to find the same stories written just a bit different in all of our Bibles that we shared. We will continue with our study this week. We will also learn about Lent and preparing for Easter with our good deeds.
The students had a wonderful time getting "messy" in kindergarten. Everyone brought in some newspaper to work on a special project. Mr. and Mrs. Corbett spent time on the weekend forming chicken wire into 3 balls one large, one medium, and one small. When Mrs. Corbett asked the children what they thought they were going to make they answered "a snowman? a wedding cake? a stack of marshmallows?" They were delighted to make a five foot tall paper Mache snowman. Each child had several opportunities to get into the "goop". They will be painting him soon, adding his face, buttons, and scarf. When he is complete the class will vote for their favorite name and of course, will graph the results. Some of the children have written stories about "How to Make Snowman." This was definitely a "special" project.
We continue to work on fine motor skills, writing our names, numbers, cutting, and pasting.
Religion: The Bible, Lent
Math: solid shapes
Language Arts: reviewing beginning letter sounds, learning "High Frequency" words, and word families (rhyming).
Writing: we have begun to write in our Journals, illustrate our entries and then read what we have written to the class. Some of us are writing stories.
Science: our bodies
Social Studies: living in a community.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO STUDY THESE HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS:
a, the, can, God, I, at, am, like, is, big, in, it, look, but, see, my, we, little, have, not, what, red, green, yellow, orange, one, two, three, brown, purple, to, black, here, get, up, to, and. where
Helpful suggestion: write the words on index cards and play games with them. Many of the children are learning the words in the order given but are confused when I change it. You can also start to put short sentences together with these words - don't forget to write some words with an uppercase letter at the beginning so the sentences will be correct.
